Art On Paper

Project description

Art on Paper is the international fair for contemporary drawing in Brussels.

An annual event that exists since 2014. Born as a pop-up store, under the impetus of Michel Culot and the late Pierre Hallet (1953 – 2021), the Art on Paper fair evolved rapidly to become, from 2015 onwards with the help of Paul Dujardin, an art fair dedicated to the practice of drawing at Bozar.  For its 7th edition (6 to 9 October 2022) Art on Paper leaves the exhibition spaces of Bozar to take over the 6 floors (6000 square meters) of the Vanderborght Building in the centre of Brussels.

Art on Paper presents in the heart of Brussels a unique panorama of the quality and diversity of contemporary approaches to drawing through the organisation of an international fair dedicated to this practice. The fair offers the various audiences, both professionals and amateurs, the opportunity to discover this diversity through the presentation of artists selected by established and emerging Belgian and international galleries.

Every year the fair also organises a call for projects, in collaboration with Eeckman Art & Insurance,  for the Eeckman Art Prize dedicated to young artists who are not yet represented by a gallery. The winner of the Prize gets the opportunity to exhibit his/her work as a solo show during the fair.

Parallel to the Eeckman Art Prize, the fair organises the SOFAM Prize for Best Solo Show in collaboration with SOFAM.

Since 2019, Art on Paper organises the Brussels Drawing Week which offers a programme focused on drawing in partnership with the main Brussels art institutions, centres and schools during the week of the fair. Around 30 partners collaborated on last year’s edition. Art on Paper is part of the programme of the Brussels Drawing. The next edition of the Brussels Drawing Week will be held from 3 to 9 October 2022. More info: www.drawingweek.brussels

Result

Each year around 40 Belgian and international galleries present a selection of the latest and the most cutting-edge artists working with drawing or paper as a medium.

Around 30 Brussels art institutions, centres and schools participated to the 2021 programme of the Brussels Drawing Week.

Art on Paper attracts nearly 10,000 visitors each year: a very broad public made up of national and international collectors, professionals in the sector, audiences with a high purchasing potential, a well-informed public (art lovers, artists, etc.) and also a curious public (families, young people, tourists, local Belgian and Brussels audiences).
The press coverage of Art on Paper is valued at more than 250,000 €, and both Art on Paper and Brussels Drawing Week benefit from wide media coverage ranging from the local and regional press to the international press.

For its 3rd edition in 2017, the fair won the Golden Award by Visit Brussels and the BEA in Ghent.
